A lover of sneakers, Chad Jones a.k.a Sneaker Galactus is more than a sneakerhead. He is an archivist, exhibit curator and preserver of culture.
With 30 years in the sneaker game, Jones has an insatiable appetite for player exclusive shoes, which helped him amass a collection of over 1,000 kicks. His nickname “The PE King” (player exclusive) rings throughout the sneaker community and comes with instant clout. He routinely lends his expertise and knowledge to publications such as Bleacher Report, ESPN, CNN and Entrepreneur Magazine. He’s also co-curated exhibits for eBay and the BATA shoe museum.
Jones developed his love for sneakers on NYC courts playing alongside future pros like Tracy McGrady, Jamaal Tinsley, Stephon Marbury, Ron Artest and Shammgod. His hooping skills granted him a full ride to Dominican College. After college his sneaker cravings took him up and down the East Coast to mom and pop sneaker stores. He and his buddies would buy out the back room of the stores for $100 and find holy grail shoes that he still has to this day.
Ten years ago his collecting took a turn for the worse when he was stabbed while waiting in line for a sneaker release. He almost lost his life. Since then he still collects but in a safer, more efficient way. Sneakers continue to be a way for him to connect with his childhood, the world and preserve an era of footwear collecting purity.
